Quick start lifts Men's Soccer to 3-0 win over Yavapai

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 5 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (9-0, 7-0) won its fourth consecutive game with a 3-0 win over Yavapai (3-2-1, (3-2-1) on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field.

The Matadors opened the scoring early, scoring two of their three goals in the first 11 minutes, both coming from Diogo Sivestre. Silvestre scored the first goal in the fifth minute on a header off a corner kick from Hiromasa Iwai.

Just six minutes later, Silvestre and Iwai teamed up again on another corner kick to push the Matadors' lead to 2-0. Karim Nlamu added an insurance goal in the second half off a pass from Justin Valleian to extend the lead to 3-0.

Esteban Gonzalez made four saves in ninety minutes between the sticks to record the shutout in the win.

The Matadors are back in action at home on Tuesday, October 8, hosting Eastern Arizona at the Matador Soccer Field at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
