Women's Basketball finished regular season with ninth straight win, beating Southern Nevada 79-68

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 12 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (25-3, 16-2_ finished the regular season with its ninth consecutive win, beating College of Southern Nevada (20-9, 10-8) 79-68 on Saturday afternoon in North Las Vegas, Nev., at the CSN Coyote Event Center.  

Nyah Hardy led the Matadors with 22 points off the bench, finishing the game as one of four Matadors to score in double figures.

Arizona Western outscored the Coyotes 19-16 in the first quarter and closed the first half on an 11-4 run, ending the second quarter on a made three-pointer from Dyvine Harris at the buzzer, sending the Matadors into the locker room leading 41-34.

Rita Gomes opened the second half the same way the Matadors ended the first half, hitting a three-pointer to push the Matadors' lead to 44-34. The Matadors bumped the lead to 13 points on a Jordan Labrador-Hallett three-pointer. The Matadors took a 59-52 lead into the fourth quarter and were able to fend off a late Coyotes' charge, scoring seven of the final 11 points to earn the win.

Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe scored 16 points, and Rita Gomes finished with 15, while Harris scored 13 points in the win.

The Matadors return home to open postseason play in the Region I semifinals on Saturday, March 8, hosting College of Southern Nevada at 5:30 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets for the Region I Semi-Final are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors. Passes will not be honored for postseason games.
