Matt Anglo named Chapman Yuma Player of the Week
YUMA, Ariz. - Arizona Western men's basketball player Matt Anglo is this week's Chapman Yuma student-athlete of the week. The sophomore guard from Ontario, Canada, scored 27 points in Arizona Western's win over ACCAC rival Central Arizona on Saturday, January 10th.
"Matt is an outstanding young man," Arizona Western head coach Kyle Isaacs said. "He always comes ready to play and puts forth a solid effort."
The win for the Matadors snapped a three-game losing streak and capped off a win to not only start the 2026 portion of the Matadors schedule, but also the start of conference play. Anglo's 27 points was just one shy of his season high 28 points which he achieved twice so far this season on November 17th, versus Palo Verde and December 5th versus New Mexico Military Academy. Anglo's career high of 30 points came nearly a year ago to the date, on January 8th, 2025, versus Central Arizona. To date, Anglo is the leading scorer for Arizona Western with an average of 13.3 points per game.
Up next for Arizona Western, a road trip to Cochise College on Wednesday, January 14th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MST
