YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Baseball freshman Ismael Cordoba was named the Chapman Automotive Student-Athlete of the Week after tossing seven shutout innings in the Matadors 7-0 win over Paradise Valley on Saturday, March 23.

Cordoba allowed just five hits and struck out six batters in seven innings of work without issuing a walk in the Matadors’ game one win over the Pumas. Arizona Western swept Paradise Valley in a doubleheader to extend their home winning streak to 10 games.

The left-hander has thrown 19 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run, dating back to a 6-3 win over Cochise on March 2.

The Matadors are ranked No. 13 in the nation and are sitting in a tie for second place in the ACCAC with Pima and head out on the road on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Mesa beginning at Noon.
