Matador Men's Basketball team named Chapman Yuma "Athletes of the Week"

YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western men's basketball team is this week's Chapman Yuma "Players of the Week." For the first time in 17 years and the first time under head coach Kyle Isaacs, the Matadors won the ACCAC regular season outright.

"It's really hard to win a conference championship," Matador Head Coach Kyle Isaacs said. "It's even harder to do it outright, by yourself."

The Matadors finished the regular season 22-8 and 12-3 in ACCAC play, one game ahead of Eastern Arizona. Arizona Western tied for the ACCAC title in the 2021-22 season, the first year under Coach Isaacs. The Matadors also won a share of the conference title in the 2016-17 season under Charles Harral. The last time the Matadors won the conference outright was in the 2008-09 season under Kelly Green. This also marks the first time since the 2008-09 season that the road to the national tournament potentially goes through Arizona Western College. The Matadors are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region I playoffs and will host the semi-final, championship game and District title game.

The Matadors begin the playoffs by hosting the College of Southern Nevada this Thursday at The House. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST. The game will also be broadcast on the Matador Sports Stream with Scott Gross, Patrick Cunningham and Alyssa Rosales on the call.
