Cordoba strikes out 12 in Baseball's 10-0 win over Bismarck State

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 22 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (21-6) began play in the Tucson Invitational Games with a 10-0 win in six innings over Bismarck State College (9-5) on Tuesday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz., at the Kino Sports Complex.

Matadors' starter Ismael Cordoba struck out 12 batters over six shutout innings while holding the Mystics to just two hits.

Gerardo Castro and Javier Diaz each collected two hits in the win, and Andres Ontiveros and Luca Hoerger each drove in a pair of runs in the win.

Ontiveros smacked a two-run home run in the first inning as the Matadors scored three runs in the first inning and added three more in the second and two more runs in the third.

Arizona Western added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning, thanks to RBI singles from Victor Lopez and Dan Kawanishi.

The Matadors return to action on Wednesday morning, taking on Williston State College at 9:00 am at Kino Sports Complex.
