
Schmidgall helps Matadors post second straight shutout with 3-0 win over Williston State
YUMA, Ariz. - The No. 22 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (22-6) earned its second consecutive shutout, beating Williston State (11-5) 3-0 on the second day of the Tucson Invitational Game in Tucson, Ariz., at Kino Sports Complex.
Matadors' starter Aiden Schmidgall held the Tetons off the scoreboard with five shutout innings, and Diego Evans finished off the shutout with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to help the Matadors earn their third consecutive win.
Javier Diaz gave the Matadors the lead in the bottom of the third inning by ripping a double down the left field line to score the first run of the game. Elian Olmos added the Matadors' second run in the fourth on a bases loaded walk while Andres Ontiveros singled in a run in the sixth inning.
The Matadors wrap up play in Tucson on Thursday morning, taking on Rockford Univeristy JV at 9:00 am at Kino Sports Complex.
