YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 22 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (24-8) dropped a pair of games in a doubleheader to No. 19 ranked Salt Lake (14-4) to open a four-game series on Saturday afternoon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field, losing game one 3-2 and game to 2-0.
Bronson Neave went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Matadors fell in the opening game of the doubleheader 3-2.
Salt Lake opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning and doubled its lead with a run in the fourth.
Neave put the Matadors on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning, but Salt Lake grabbed that run back in the fifth.
Luca Hoerger pulled the Matadors back to within a run with an RBI single in the sixth inning,g but the Matadors would not get any closer.
Victor Lopez singled and walked in game two as the Matadors were held to four hits in a 2-0 loss.
The Bruins scored the only runs in the game in the second inning on a two-run home run.
The Matadors and Bruins wrap up the four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 16, beginning at Noon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
