YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (4-2) won its second consecutive game, beating AZ Sol 123-40 on Tuesday evening at the House Gymnasium thanks to a combined 49 points from Edwin Suarez and Engel Gutierrez.
The Matadors forced a season-high 28 turnovers and held AZ Sol to 40 points, the fewest points given up by the Matadors in a game this season.
Sophomore Edwin Suarez went 11-for-15 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds to finish the night with 25 points in a double-double. Gutierrez made a team-high four tree pointers to end the night second in scoring with 24.
The Matadors allowed just 11 points in the second half, outscoring AZ Sol 62-11 as Lucca Reinehr finished third in scoring with 14 points and both Kaleb Myers and Ali Mbaye ended the night with 12 points. Boubacar Diatta was the sixth Matador in double-figures with 10. Paora Winitana finished the game tied with Suarez with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Matadors are back in action on Wednesday, November 13, taking on Grand Canyon Club at 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
