YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (19-7, 10-5) won its second consecutive game, beating Yavapai (11-17, 6-10) 63-45 win at the House Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
Kaleb Myers led the Matadors with 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to help the Matadors earn the win.
Arizona Western got off the a quick start, taking a 22-13 lead in the first half before the Roughriders chipped away and cut the Matadors' lead to 36-30 early in the second half. The Matadors allowed just 15 more points from the point on, outscoring Yavapai 34-25 in the second half to win the game 63-45.
Matt Anglo scored 11 points and had seven rebounds and both Edwin Suarez and Lucca Reinehr each scored 10 points in the win.
With the win the Matadors remained in third place, one game behind Cochise for the No. 2 seed and home-court advantage in the semifinals of the Region I tournament. Cochise owns the head-to-head tiebreaker, meaning the Matadors need to win out while Cochise would need to lose its final two games for the Matadors to earn the two seed.
The Matadors are back home on Saturday, February 22, hosting Cochise in the final regular season home game at 4:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
