Shorthanded Matadors storm back for 3-2 win over Glendale

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 2 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (5-0-2, 2-0-1) scored two unanswered goals to battle back and beat Glendale (3-1-1, 1-1) 3-2 on Tuesday night at Matador Soccer Field.

Rezhis Koxhaj scored a pair of goals while Stephen Saladin as the Matadors erased a two-goal deficit while playing with ten men for the majority of the second half.

Glendale jumped out to an early lead, scoring a goal in the 26th minute putting the Gauchos in front 1-0. The Matadors leveled the game seven minutes later thanks to Rezhis Koxhaj who received a pass at the doorstep and beat the keeper at close range.

Just like the first half, Glendale took a lead early in the second half, going up 2-1 on a chip over the Matadors' keeper in the 50th minute. After Terry Makedika was issued a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving the Matadors down a man, Koxhaj capped off his brace with a goal in the 70th minute, sneaking a shot through traffic and by the keeper the level the game at 2-2.

Stephen Saladin got behind the Glendale back line and beat the oncoming Gauchos keeper with a chip in the net to put the Matadors in front at 3-2 with the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.

The Matadors are back at home on Saturday, September 16, hosting Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC matchup at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
