Men's Soccer heads into postseason with 14-0 win over Imperial Valley

 

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 1 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (13-0-3) wrapped the 2023 regular season with a 14-0 win over Imperial Valley (0-11-2) on Friday evening at Matador Soccer Field.

Arizona Western opened the scoring in the eighth minute thanks to a goal from Rezhis Koxhaj who tapped a ball past the keeper from inside the six-yard box. Koxhaj added the second just seconds later by striking a ball out of the reach of the Imperial Valley keeper from 20 yards out to push the lead to 2-0.

Stephen Saladin added the Matadors' third goal after his first shot was blocked, following up with a second shot that found the back of the net from just outside the box. Erick Mejia upped the advantage to 4-0 in the 41st minute with a chip just under the bar.

Jeremi Kwiatkowski scored the Matadors' sixth goal on the other side of the half, booming a ball to the back post and in from 30 yards out to give the Matadors a 6-0 lead.

The Matadors added eight more goals in the final 25 minutes to pull away for the 14-0 win in the regular season finale.

The Matadors will open postseason play with the Region I final on Saturday, October 28, hosting Yavapai at 7:00 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors. Passes will not be accepted for postseason games.
