Matadors' season ends in semifinals with 4-3 loss to Tyler

WICHITA, Kan. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team scored three goals in the second but fell short in its comeback attempt, falling to Tyler 4-3 in the semifinals of the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer Championships on Thursday evening.

Tyler scored the first two goals of the game, jumping in front early with a goal in the 11th minute before grabbing a second goal just before half on a header off a corner kick to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Terry Makedika got the Matadors on the board from the spot, scoring the Matadors' first goal on a penalty in the 52nd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. After Tyler grabbed that goal back with a third in the 54th minute, the Apaches built a three-goal lead with a 74th-minute goal.

Makedika pulled the Matadors to within two goals with another penalty in the 75th minute and Nick Kinina punched in a loose ball off a set piece in the 90th minute to score the Matadors' third and final goal in the loss.

The Matadors finish the season 17-1-3 and reached the national semifinals for a third consecutive season.
