YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 3 ranked Arizona Western Men's Soccer team (1-1) scored a pair of goals on its way to its first win of the season, beating Fullerton College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Walnut, Calif.
Less than 24 hours after suffering a season-opening defeat, the Matadors came out strong, scoring the game-winning goal in the first half.
Diogo Silvestre opened the scoring for the Matadors, giving the Matadors a 1-0 lead with his Arizona Western goal. Daniel Coke gave the Matadors an insurance goal just outside the half, pushing the lead to 2-0.
Esteban Gonzalez recorded the clean sheet, keeping Fullerton College off the scoreboard for 90 minutes in the win.
The Matadors return to action on Tuesday, September 3, taking on Eastern Arizona at John Mickelson Stadium in Thatcher, Ariz., at 7:00 pm.
