YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 8 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer team (3-1) earned its third consecutive win, beating Western Texas 1-0 at John Mickelson Stadium in Thatcher, Ariz., on Wednesday afternoon.
Goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez stepped up to take a penalty in the 65th minute, beating the keeper to give the Matadors the 1-0 lead. Arizona Western was awarded the penalty thanks to a foule inside the box on a Matadors corner kick.
Gonzalez played all 90 minutes in goal, recording his third shutout of the season, recording four saves in the win.
The Matadors open the home portion of the 2024 schedule on Saturday, September 7, at 4:30 pm at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
