Matadors cruise into Region I finals with 8-0 win over Southern Nevada

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 6 ranked Arizona Western Matadors opened postseason play with an 8-0 win over College of Southern Nevada on Tuesday night at Matador Soccer Field in the Region I semifinals.
The Matadors dominated possession in the first half and after being turned away on their first few shots of the game, Arizona Western opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the game when Ebenezer Laryea tapped in a ball sitting in front of the goal to give the Matadors a 1-0 lead.
Hiromasa Iwai gave the Matadors their second goal of the game in the 17th minute, striking a ball off the bar and down into the goal to push the lead to 2-0. Diogo Silvestre added the third just two minutes later, jumping on a ball off the post and beating the keeper to make it 3-0 Arizona Western. The Matadors put their fifth goal of the half on the board in the 29th minute off a corner kick when Christopher Martinez tucked a ball inside the post to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Matadors added three more goals in the second half thanks to a second goal from Silvestre and a Southern Nevada own goal before Shuto Sano capped off the scoring with the final goal of the game to make the scoreline 8-0 in favor of the Matadors
The Matadors advance to the Region I finals to take on Yavapai on Saturday, November 2 at a time to be determined at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for seniors. Passes will not be honored for postseason games.
