YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 6 ranked Arizona Western Matadors opened postseason play with an 8-0 win over College of Southern Nevada on Tuesday night at Matador Soccer Field in the Region I semifinals.

The Matadors dominated possession in the first half and after being turned away on their first few shots of the game, Arizona Western opened the scoring in the 15^th minute of the game when Ebenezer Laryea tapped in a ball sitting in front of the goal to give the Matadors a 1-0 lead.

Hiromasa Iwai gave the Matadors their second goal of the game in the 17^th minute, striking a ball off the bar and down into the goal to push the lead to 2-0. Diogo Silvestre added the third just two minutes later, jumping on a ball off the post and beating the keeper to make it 3-0 Arizona Western. The Matadors put their fifth goal of the half on the board in the 29^th minute off a corner kick when Christopher Martinez tucked a ball inside the post to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Matadors added three more goals in the second half thanks to a second goal from Silvestre and a Southern Nevada own goal before Shuto Sano capped off the scoring with the final goal of the game to make the scoreline 8-0 in favor of the Matadors

The Matadors advance to the Region I finals to take on Yavapai on Saturday, November 2 at a time to be determined at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for seniors. Passes will not be honored for postseason games.
