Men's Soccer's Mapessa named Region I Player of the Year, Gonzalez earns Goalkeeper of the Year

YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Men's Soccer players Giulio Mapessa and Esteban Gonzalez were both honored for their performance this past season as Mapessa was voted Region I DI Men's Soccer Player of the Year and Gonzalez earned Region I DI Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year honors.

Esteban Gonzalez led the conference in save percentage at .868, making 33 saves this season, and allowing just five goals.

The sophomore from Belgium posted a 0.48 goals-against average and led the conference in shutouts with six. Gonzalez scored a goal on a penalty in a 1-0 win over Western Texas back in September.
