Fréchette drives in 11 runs in Softball's doubleheader sweep of Tejanas

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Softball team (6-5) finished off a four-game series sweep of the El Paso Tejanas (4-4) on Saturday afternoon, winning both games of a doubleheader 14-0 and 12-3 thanks to 11 runs batted in by Léa Fréchette.

Fréchette went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, driving in four runs to help the Matadors open the day with a 14-0 win in five innings over the Tejanas.

The Matadors scored a run in the first inning before opening the lead up with a four spot in the second inning highlighted by a Krisilyn Corral three-run homer. Corral went 1-for-2 with a walk and three runs batted in.

After scoring a run in the third inning, the Matadors put eight runs on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a Fréchette homer and a Rauni Gallegos three-run triple.

Julia Saucedo went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and Natalie Pinon went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the win.

Autumn Arriola kept the Tejanas off the board, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just four hits in the win in the circle.

Fréchette continued her strong hitting into game two, going 3-for-4 with a double and two home runs while driving in seven runs in a 12-3 win in six innings.

After the Matadors scored a run in the first inning, Fréchette grew the lead in the second inning, blasting a grand slam to put the Matadors on top 5-0 for her fourth homer of the weekend.
The Matadors scored their sixth run of the game in the third inning and put three runs on the board in each of the fifth and sixth innings, including another home run from Fréchette and a solo blast from Larissa Rueda.

Alissa Pinon had a pair of hits and drove in two runs while McDonnell went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in the win.

The Matadors open their home schedule on Thursday, February 13, hosting Luna Community College in a doubleheader beginning at Noon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
