
Softball sweeps Utah State Eastern to extend winning streak to 10 games

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Softball team (12-5) extended its winning streak to 10 games with a doubleheader sweep of Utah State Eastern (4-6) on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 9-1 in six innings before taking game two 9-5 at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
Léa Fréchette went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Hannah Love homered to help the Matadors open the day with a 9-1 win over the Golden Eagles.
The Matadors started the scoring in the first inning, scoring a run on a Krisilyn Corral double before scoring two more in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Matadors put a four spot on the board in the third inning, scoring two runs on an error before a Frechette single scored a run and a passed ball gave the Matadors a 7-1 lead.
Love hammered a solo homer in the fourth and Daysy Juarez ended the game in the sixth inning with a single to score Frechette.
Jaurez went 2-for-3 and Corral drove in a pair of runs to help the Matadors earn the sweep with a 9-5 win in game two.
The Matadors scored eight runs in the first three innings to jump out to an 8-1 lead. Utah State Eastern chipped away, scoring two runs in the fourth inning but the Matadors were able to tack on an insurance run in the sixth on a passed ball.
The Golden Eagles scored two more runs in the seventh inning but the Matadors were able to hang on for the 9-5 win.
The Matadors return to action on Friday, February 28, taking on Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC doubleheader beginning at Noon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
