Softball battles back in game two to earn doubleheader split with Southern Nevada

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Softball team (16-11, 2-6) split a doubleheader with College of Southern Nevada (15-10, 11-1) on Saturday afternoon, losing game one 12-3 before bouncing back to win the second game 6-2.

The Southern Nevada Coyotes used an eight-run fifth inning to pull away and win the opening game of the doubleheader.

Krisilyn Coral doubled and went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss, and Hannah Love went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Southern Nevada jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first two innings, but the Matadors chipped away and trimmed the deficit to one run at 4-3 with a two-run bottom of the third inning.

Rauni Gallegos collected three hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Julia Saucedo drove in three runs to help the Matadors take game two, 6-2.

The Matadors put up a three-spot in both the second and third innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead.

Lili Vigil German tossed a complete game, allowing two runs, both earned, on nine hits to earn the win in the circle.

The Matadors are back in action on Friday, March 21, hosting Central Arizona in an ACCAC doubleheader beginning at Noon at Charlie Dine Softball Field.
