
Women's Basketball rebounds to finish weekend on high note with 64-53 win over Northwest
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (4-1) bounced back to finish its weekend up north with a 64-53 win over Northwest (4-2) on Saturday afternoon in Casper, Wyo., at Swede Erickson Thunderbird Gymnasium.
Freshman forward Mable Doumbia led the Matadors in scoring for a second straight game, scoring 15 points to help the Matadors finish the weekend 1-1.
The Matadors offense came out of the gates fast, scoring 22 points in the first quarter, taking a 22-15 lead before scoring just 11 points in the second quarter, taking a 33-32 lead into the break.
After a back-and-forth third quarter, Northwest briefly took the lead but the Matadors outscored the Trappers 21-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
Jordan Labrador-Hallet scored 12 points to finish as the Matadors' second-leading scorer while Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe scored 11 points.
The Matadors open conference play on Wednesday, November 20, heading to Thatcher, Ariz., to take on Eastern Arizona at 5:30 pm at Guitteau Gym.
