
Women's Basketball leads wire-to-wire in 82-36 win over Yavapai
YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 17 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (8-1, 2-0) remained unbeaten in ACCAC play by beating Yavapai (2-6, 0-3) 82-36 at the House Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, winning its fifth consecutive game.
Mable Doumbia and Iria Briones scored 16 points each to lead four Matadors in double-figures in the win.
Arizona Western opened the game on an 8-0 run and scored 30 points in the first quarter, holding the Roughriders to just 21 points in the first half.
As a team, the Matadors went 9-for-26 from the three-point line with Rita Gomes leading the team with four makes in seven attempts, finishing the game with 14 points. Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe was the fourth Matador in double-figures with 12 points, ending the game with a double-double, adding 12 rebounds.
The Matadors won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Roughriders 34-23 and had 11 steals in the win.
The Matadors return to action on Wednesday, December 11, hosting No. 23-ranked Cochise at 5:30 p.m. at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors, while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
