
Matadors Women's Basketball stays perfect in conference play with 65-60 win at Central Arizona
YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 14 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (13-1, 4-0) won its 10th consecutive game, holding off the Central Arizona Vaqueras (6-5, 3-2) 65-60 in Coolidge, Ariz., on Wednesday evening.
The Matadors were led by Rita Gomes who scored 15 points and hit a team-high three three-pointers in the Matadors' win.
Three Matadors scored in double-figures as Mable Doumbia and Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe scored 14 points.
The Matadors came out fast, scoring 23 points in the first quarter to take a 23-14 lead into the second period before being held to just 12 points in the final 10 minutes of the first half as Central Arizona came storming back to tie the game at 35-35 at the break.
Arizona Western was able to outlast the Vaqueras in the second half as the Matadors held Central Arizona to just 25 points in the final 20 minutes.
The Matadors head north on Saturday, January 11, taking on the College of Southern Nevada in the first-ever conference meeting between the Matadors and the Coyotes at 3:00 pm Arizona time.
