Harris and Hardy combine for 39 in Women's Basketball's 83-76 loss to Southern Nevada

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 14 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (13-2, 4-1) suffered its first conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon in North Las Vegas, Nev., losing 83-76 to College of Southern Nevada (13-3, 3-2) at CSN Coyote Event Center.

Dyvine Harris scored 20 points to lead all scorers as the Matadors fell to the Coyotes, snapping 10 10-game winning streak.

The Matadors came out strong, hitting three three-pointers in the first two minutes, scoring 11 of the first 15 points to take an 11-4 lead. College of Southern Nevada battled back to tie the game at 18-18 before Harris gave the Matadors the lead back with a three-pointer. The Coyotes answered the Harris three with one of their own to send the game to the second quarter knotted at 21-21.

College of Southern Nevada held the Matadors to just eight points in the second quarter, being outscored 21-8. Nyah Hardy was able to stop an early 7-0 run with a made three-pointer before doing so again to cut the Coyotes' lead to 34-29 before Southern Nevada closed the first half with an 8-0 run to take a 42-29 lead into the break.

After trailing 56-42 in the third quarter, the Matadors were able to cut the deficit to six points at 56-50 thanks to a 6-0 run, capped off by a Rita Gomes three-pointer. College of Southern Nevada built the lead back up to 10 points at 64-54.

The Coyotes jumped out to an 81-63 lead midway through the fourth quarter and the Matadors were able to climb back to within six points but ran out of time, falling 83-76.

Nyah Hardy finished the game as the Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring 19 points off the bench while Rita Gomes scored 14 points and Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe ended the game with 11.

The Matadors return home to host No. 16 ranked Eastern Arizona on Wednesday, January 15, at the House Gymnasium at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
