Harris posts double-double in Women's Basketball's 87-53 win over Central Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 12 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (17-3, 8-2) returned home and returned to the win column with an 87-53 win over Central Arizona (11-11, 5-6) thanks to a double-double from Dyvine Harris on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Harris scored 14 points and dished out 13 assists while Rita Gomes scored a game-high 25 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.

After the two teams split the first eight points of the game, the Matadors used a 13-0 run to take a 17-4 lead capped off by a Rita Gomes three. The Matadors closed the quarter with a 19-1 run, leading 23-5 after the first 10 minutes.

The Matadors doubled their total in the second quarter, scoring 23 points for the second straight quarter, and held the Vaqueras to 16 points to take a 46-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Arizona Western's trend of scoring 20 or more points in a quarter continued in the second half, scoring 21 in the third and finishing the game by scoring 20 in the fourth quarter to earn its second win over Central Arizona this season.

Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe was the Matadors' second-leading scorer, scoring 20 points while Mable Doumbia was the fourth Matador in double-figures scoring 14 points.

The Matadors are back at home on Wednesday, February 5, hosting Southern Nevada at 5:30 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
