Women's Basketball claims ACCAC DI regular season title with 72-61 win over Cochise

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 12 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball team (23-3, 14-2) clinched the ACCAC DI regular season conference title with a 72-61 win over No 22 ranked Cochise (18-9, 10-5) on Saturday afternoon at the House Gymnasium.

Nyah Hardy scored a game-high 25 points off the bench, going 10-for-14 from the field while hitting four three-pointers to help the Matadors win their seventh consecutive win.

The Matadors opened up a 13-2 lead early before the Apaches chipped away and whittled the Matadors' lead down to 32-29 before Hardy converted a three-point play right before the half to put the Matadors up 35-29 at the break.

Arizona Western pushed its lead back to double-figures midway through the second half when Hardy hit a jumper from the free throw line to put the Matadors up 48-37. The Matadors would get to the free throw line in the fourth quarter, shooting 12 free throws in the fourth quarter and getting eight fourth-quarter points from Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe to pull away from the Apaches.

Zonzon-Huyghe and Dyvine Harris each scored 13 points in the win while Rita Gomes added nine points.

The Matadors head to Coolidge, Ariz., on Wednesday, February 26, taking on Central Arizona at 5:30 pm.
