
Dewey named WHoopDirt.com JUCO Coach of the Week after guiding Matadors to regular season crown
YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball head coach Chelsea Dewey was named WHoopDirt.com JUCO Coach of the Week after leading the Matadors to a pair of wins to extend their winning streak to seven games.
The Matadors opened the week with a 78-28 win over Yavapai, holding the Roughriders to just 22.4% from the field and had four players in double-figures to sweep the season series with Yavapai.
Arizona Western picked up its seventh win of the season over a ranked team, beating No. 22 ranked Cochise 72-61 on Saturday afternoon led by Nyah Hardy who scored 25 points off the bench to earn their second win over Cochise this season.
The win over Cochise clinched the ACCAC DI regular season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Region I tournament.
The Matadors wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games, heading to Coolidge, Ariz., to take on Central Arizona on Wednesday, February 26, before heading north to take on Southern Nevada on Saturday, March 1.
