Chelsea Dewey honored as 2025 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coach of the Year
YUMA, Ariz. – Arizona Western Matadors Women's Basketball Head Coach Chelsea Dewey was named the 2025 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coach of the Year and will receive the Pat Summit Trophy after leading the Matadors to a 25-win season and an ACCAC regular season championship.
The second-year head coach guided one of the top shooting teams in the nation, shooting 35.5 percent the three-point line, fifth best in NJCAA DI Women's Basketball.
Arizona Western owns seven wins over NJCAA DI ranked opponents, including wins over the No. 4 ranked team in the nation back in December, beating College of Southern Idaho 67-58 and an 84-60 win over Odessa, ranked 12th in the nation. The Matadors also won over the No. 5 ranked team in NJCAA DII, beating Mesa 66-53 on the road in January.
The Matadors went 13-1 at home this season and owned overall winning streaks of 10 and nine games. Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe was a First Team All-ACCAC and All-Region honoree, Rita Gomes earned Second Team All-ACCAC and All-Region honors, and Dyvine Harris was a Second Team All-ACCAC selection.
Dewey was the ACCAC DI Coach of the Year in just her second season in charge and her first season since the interim tag was removed from her title before the 2024-25 season.
Dewey becomes only the second ACCAC coach to win the WBCA Two-Year College Coach of the Year honor, joining Women's Basketball Hall of Fame member Lin Laursen of Central Arizona, who won the award three times, last doing so in 2005.
