Martinez scores four goals in Women's Soccer's 12-0 win over Cougars

YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 11 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer team (7-1, 6-0) extended its winning streak to six games with a 12-0 win over South Mountain (0-7-1, 0-4-1) on Tuesday afternoon in Phoenix.

Ashly Martinez set a season-high by scoring four goals to help the Lady Matadors stay undefeated in conference play. Arizona Western scored six goals in each half, scoring the second most goals in a game this season.

Martinez scored three of the first four goals, scoring the opener in the sixth minute to put the Lady Matadors up 1-0 before Loegan Alia added a second goal three minutes later. Martinez scored back-to-back goals to double the lead to 4-0. Risui Arasaki added the fifth goal in the 23rd minute before Cianna Thomas finished the first half scoring with a goal in the 30th minute to give the Lady Matadors a 6-0 lead the break.

Martinez started the second half the same way she started the first, scoring the opening goal by grabbing her fourth goal of the game eight minutes into the second half to extend the lead to 7-0. Riley McQueenie scored the Lady Matadors' eighth goal while Wendy Jimenez tacked on the ninth in the 69th minute. Thomas became the second Lady Matador to record a multi-goal game, pushing the score line to 10-0 right before Arasaki accomplished the same feat, giving the Lady Matadors an 11-0 lead in the 81st minute. Sophie Chapman finished the scoring with the 12th goal in the 83rd minute.

The Lady Matadors are back in Phoenix on Saturday, September 23, taking the No. 1 ranked team in NJCAA DII Women's Soccer, Phoenix College, at Hoy Stadium at 4:30 pm.
