YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 5 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Women's Soccer team (9-0, 7-0) pushed its winning streak to nine games with a 4-0 win over Yavapai (5-4-4, (2-2-3), putting together its eighth shutout of the season on Saturday night at Matador Soccer Field.
After the Matadors and Roughriders traded possession for the first 20 minutes of the contest, Dianna Taddei got the scoring started for the Matadors, scoring a goal in the 21st minute to put the Matadors up 1-0 before Yui Suetsugu scored her first of two goals in the 27th minute, pushing the lead to 2-0.
After scoring the two goals in the first half hour of play, the Matadors were held quiet until the 65th minute when Suetsugu added her second goal of the night off a ball played through by Linka Ono.
Karla Moreno capped off the scoring in the 69th minute, putting home a ball from Naho Yamamura to up the advantage to 4-0.
Iyan Hernandez recorded another shutout in goal for the Matadors, making four saves in 90 minutes in the Matadors' win.
The Matadors are back in action at home on Tuesday, October 8, hosting Eastern Arizona at the Matador Soccer Field at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
