Volleyball comes back to beat hosts Garden City 3-2

CHEYENNE, WY – Arizona Western Volleyball (2-0) battled back from down two sets to none to finish the first day of the Scooter's Coffee Invitational with a 3-2 win over the hosts Garden City (1-1) on Saturday night at Conestoga Arena.

Ma'o Lauhingoa led the Lady Matadors with 11 kills while recording 11 digs in the win while Alexis Goodman set a career-high with 10 kills.

Garden City jumped out to a 2-0 lead, taking the first set 25-19 before coming from behind in set two, taking the second set 25-20.

The Lady Matadors stayed alive in set three, outlasting the Broncbusters 26-24 to force a fourth set. The Lady Matadors would again use a late run to even the match, winning the fourth set 25-22 to force a fifth set.

The fifth set was back-and-forth with the Lady Matadors opening up a 10-7 lead after the teams switched sides. The Lady Matadors pushed the lead to 12-7 after scoring the next two points following a Garden City timeout. After a brief Garden City run, Arizona Western closed out the match with a 15-13 fifth-set win on a Goodman kill.

The Lady Matadors are back in action Saturday, August 19 on the second day of the Scooter's Coffee Invitational, taking on Frank Phillips at 8:30 am MST at Conestoga Arena.
