YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (5-4) opened up play in the Dalton Overstreet Invitational in Prescott, Ariz., with 3-0 wins over Wenatchee Valley College and Park University-Gilbert JV on Friday afternoon at Walraven Gymnasium.
The Matadors opened the day with a 3-0 win over Wenatchee Valley College as Gabriela Martensson led the team with 10 kills in the win. Larryn Joseph-Rodrigues and Ma'o Lauhingoa each finished tied for second on the team in kills with seven.
Erimez led the way with 16 assists and Lilous Henry-Souquet-Bressand had the most digs with 14.
The Matadors finished the afternoon with another win in straight sets, beating Park University-Gilbert JV 3-0. Gabriela Martensson led the team with 10 kills in the win. Larryn Joseph-Rodrigues and Ma'o Lauhingoa each finished tied for second on the team in kills with seven.
Rana Yamada led the way defensively with 11 digs while Erimez added nine for the Matadors. Erimez finished the match as the team leader in assists with 18 and Andrea Krgovic had 15.
The Matadors are back in action on Saturday, September 7, taking on Mesa at 8:00 am and Chandler-Gilbert at 1:00 pm in Prescott.
