Volleyball opens conference play with 3-0 win over Southern Nevada

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (8-4, 1-0) opened conference play with a 3-0 win on the road over College of Southern Nevada (0-8, 0-1) in North Las Vegas, Nev., at the CSN Sports Center on Wednesday night.
Three Matadors finished the match in double-figures in digs as the Matadors held Southern Nevada to a total of 42 points in three sets.
Arizona Western built a 17-4 lead in the first set and never looked back, taking the opener 25-15 before pulling ahead late in the second set to take hold of the match at 2-0 with a 25-19 set two-win.
Larryn Joseph-Rodrigues was the team leader in kills with 11 while Rana Yamada had 20 digs in the win.
The Matadors jumped out to an early 9-2 lead in the third set and coasted to a 25-8 win, taking the match in straight sets.
Natalia Valencia-Gamboa had 13 digs while Lilou Henry-Souquet-Bressand finished with 11. Valencia-Gamboa led the team in blocks with a total of four while Esther Asiedu had three.
The Matadors return to action on Wednesday, September 18, hosting Yavapai at 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
