Volleyball shakes off slow start to beat Yavapai 3-1
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (12-5, 4-1) won three straight sets after dropping the first set to finish off the weekend with a 3-1 win over Yavapai (5-7, 2-4) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Prescott, Ariz., at Walraven Gymnasium.
Larrynn Joseph-Rodrigues ended the day with double-digit kills for a second straight day, leading the Matadors with 12 kills while Natalia Valencia-Gamboa had 11 kills in the win.
The Matadors got off to a slow start, dropping the opening set 25-7 before coming back to take the second set 25-17. Arizona Western outlasted the Roughriders 26-24 in the third and finished the match off with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
Nehir Erimez started the offense for the Matadors with 17 assists while five Matadors finished the match with double digits in digs, led by Erimez with 13.
The Matadors return home on Friday, October 4, hosting Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC showdown at 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
