YUMA, Ariz. – The No. 20 ranked Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (14-6, 6-2) opened a two-match weekend in Coolidge, Ariz., with a 3-0 loss to Central Arizona (10-13, 3-3) on Friday evening.
Larrynn Joseph-Rodrigues led the Matadors in kills with nine and put together a .308 hitting percentage in the loss.
The Matadors dropped the opening set 27-25 before scoring 13 points in the second set, falling behind 2-0 in the match with a 25-13 loss. The Matadors couldn't crawl back, losing the third set 25-21.
Nehir Erimez steered the offense with 13 assists, Natalia Valencia-Gamboa had 14 digs, and Rana Yamada ended the match with 12.
The Matadors will finish the weekend with another matchup with the Central Arizona Vaqueras on Saturday, October 12. The first serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in Coolidge.
