Women's Soccer pushes winning streak to 10 games with 6-0 win over Pima

TUCSON, Ariz., - The No. 9 ranked Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer team (11-1, 10-0) extended its winning streak to 10 games with a 6-0 win over Pima (6-5-2, 5-3-2) on Tuesday night at Aztec Field.

Yuna Aoki opened the scoring for the Lady Matadors in the 19th minute, firing a shot from just inside the 18-yard box, sneaking the ball under the bar to put the Lady Matadors in front 1-0. The would-be game-winning goal was Aoki's second straight game with the game-winner.

Ashly Martinez scored her first of two goals of the night in the 25th minute, working a give-and-go with Abigail Nkrumah, taking a short pass on the edge of the box before beating the keeper to extend the Lady Matadors' lead to 2-0.  

The Lady Matadors scored four of their six goals in the second half, starting with Leigha Dobbins who put home a rebound off a saved penalty in the 61st minute. Martinez made it 4-0 a few moments later with a strike from 25 yards out.

Loegan Alia made it a 5-0 lead, tapping in a cross from Cianna Thomas at the back post in the 73rd minute while Wendy Jimenez added the final goal of the game in the 80th minute.

The shutout was the Lady Matadors' ninth shutout of the season and second straight shutout. Goalkeeper Tindra Biedermann recorded the clean sheet, playing all 90 minutes.

The Lady Matadors return home on Saturday, October 14, hosting GateWay in an ACCAC matchup at 4:30 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
