Biedermann and Thomas lead Lady Matadors to semifinals with PKs win over Monroe

YUMA, Ariz. – For the first time in program history, the Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Soccer team is through to the semifinals of the NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Championships, beating Monroe 4-2 in penalties on Tuesday evening.

For the second consecutive game, the Lady Matadors had to battle from a goal down in the second half as Monroe opened the scoring in the 52nd minute to take 1-0 lead before Cianna Thomas answered with a goal from 30 yards out to level the score line at 1-1.

The Lady Matadors and the Tribunes went to overtime where the game would remained level at 1-1, going to penalties.

Both teams were unable to convert on their first opportunities before the Lady Matadors made their next four attempts and Lady Matadors' goalkeeper Tindra Biedermann made her second save of the shootout and the Lady Matadors secured the win in penalties 4-2.

The Lady Matadors will take on Eastern Florida State in the semifinals of the 2023 NJCAA DI Women's Soccer Championships on Thursday, November 16 at 12:30 pm at Stryker Complex.
